Department of Water Resources appoints 36 Geologists in GWD Mobile Application “GUESS” launched for Ground Water Utility & Extraction Structure Survey. Publicity Van on CHHATA Scheme flagged off Bhubaneswar, 5.4. 2023
The Department of Water Resources, Govt. of Odisha distributed appointment orders to newly recruited 36 Geologists in Ground Water Development Directorate, Odisha. Hon’ble Minister Water Resources, Commerce and Transport Smt. Tukuni Sahu distributed appointment orders to these newly recruited Geologists in a programme organized by the DoWR at Geet Govind Sadan Auditorium, Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. Hon’ble Minister Smt. Sahu also launched a Mobile application “GUESS” (Ground Water Utility & Extraction Structure Survey), developed by GWD, Odisha under the National Hydrological Project Hon’ble Minister, Water Resources also released IEC materials under “CHHATA”(Community Harnessing & Harvesting rain water Artificially from Terrace to Aquifer ) scheme. She also flagged off a publicity van on “CHHATA” scheme for awareness of the public to adopt Rooftop Rain water Harvesting System (RRHS) of DoWR, Govt. of Odisha. Addressing to the newly recruited Geologists Hon’ble Minister said, ‘Water is precious. Keeping in view of requirement of water for our daily consumption, Agriculture, Industrial and other needs, the State Government has committed towards conservation of water and related projects. We have made consistent effort to enhance water use efficiency. But challenges due to climatic change is a concern of the hour and we have to depend upon ground water.’ Hon’ble Minister Smt. Sahu also added that under the able leadership of Honble Chief Minister Sri Naveen Pattnaik, DoWR has adopted 5-T principles for effective service delivery through transformation. Newly recruited Geologists can explore their ideas and talents for identification of water scarcity pockets in different blocks of the State so as to formulate policy for our future generation Welcoming newly recruited Geologists to the DoWR family, Smt. Anu Garg, Development Commissioner & ACS, DoWR stated that Ground Water is important for all of us. In India, Ground Water extraction average is 61% where as it is about 43% in our State. Though there is less pressure on the Ground Water in our State in comparison to other States, we should not be complacent and we have to go for increasing recharge of ground water. Awareness drive has been carried out to inform the public to take the benefit of CHHATA and ARUA (Artificial Recharge to Underground Aquifer) Scheme.
